I get into it with an idiot, er, commenter on Facebook.
I reposted my old Enter Stage Right article and it seems to have set off a liberal named Paul Chevalier. Below is the whole debate (for now):
Chevlaier says:
Aside from the palaverous hate-filled ramblings assembled from the talking points of worst of the worst extremist media outlets, can you explain whether your core claim of "refusing our right to drill for oil" is a patent falsehood known to you and you're just spouting it for some pathetically otiose agenda, or if you actually give credence to it out of factual ignorance. Please ponder a couple of thoughts: 1: what percentage of U.S. petroleum drilling is done on private vs public lands, and 2: How many drilling leases for public lands are currently approved for energy companies, where those companies are choosing not to exercise them? Simple facts like those (and many others) trivially neuter your simple-minded and rage-blinded meretricious blatherings.
I reply: more...

We find ourselves in a society that depends on experts who, seeing the people as a manipulable mass, systematically ignore their will. They seek power but no longer even try to establish the moral authority required for the exercise of respectful leadership.
There is no shortage of those who will abdicate their freedoms and the freedom of others to bow at the alter of these "experts” which they selectively curate with blind obedience.

Vivek Ramaswami has accepted a settlement offer from the World Economic Forum, who gave the false impression he was one of them. He plans to donate the money to conservative groups.
The interesting thing is the Yahoo article's title says "Vivek Ramaswamy settles lawsuit with World Economic Forum, will donate money" which makes it appear Vivek was the one being sued and is donating the money to the WEF.
In other words it's a skillful lie.
At any rate here is the article.
Oh wait; this was a Fox News story republished by Yahoo!

Using Gallup surveys, respondents are read a list of institutions in American society and asked to fill out their confidence in each one -- a great deal, quite a lot, some or very little?
The data goes back to 1973 and ends in 2023.
The first chart shows all the questions and their historical time series.
Has anyone noticed that every category has been up since 2020?
The only places most respondents had confidence in the institution were the military and small businesses. The places where we have the lowest confidence are Congress, television news, and big business.
Tim adds:
The military is certainly a lagging indicator; I no longer have any confidence in them at all either.
BTW wouldn't this suggest Donald Trump has a better chance of winning than he is credited? He is certainly the anti-establishment candidate and if the public so lacks confidence in our institutions he would be the logical beneficiary of their vote.

Joe Manchin may run as 3rd party presidential candidate since he's not going to be reelected senator from West Virginia where Trump won twice by 40 points. He's behind the Republican Senate candidate even though Manchin's the incumbent.
Manchin appearance with third-party group fuels speculation over 2024 run

Tim adds:
I'm not sure how I feel about that. On the one hand he should peal away Democrts who don't like Biden, but on the other Trump has made inroads into the Democrat labor base - which would be Manchin's core as well. And he would no doubt get the votes of RINOs. I imagine David French at Jonah Goldberg would be happy to vote Manchin. So this may well hurt the GOP more than the Democrats. Maybe.
He should be on a ticket with Liz Chaney...

Newt Gingrich has always been a part of the problem with the GOP and he shows he remains so today.
Gingrich called impeachment of Biden a "terrible idea" and urged Kevin McCarthy to move "very, very, very slowly" on it.
That Gingrich screwed up the impeachment of Bill Clinton is no doubt why he is making these statements now.
The fact is Gingrich and the House GOP should have lit a fire under Trent Lott and the Senate Republicans, and should have torn their Senate colleagues a new one over the rules they put in place for the trial.
Couple that with the fact Gingrich's strategy to win the off-year election was to duck and cover; he argued the party out of power always gains seats so all they had to do was keep their heads down to avoid any unpleasantness with the media and they would win. That was political stupidity of the first order; the Democrats ran ads and made false statements defining the Republicans and it worked. The public thought the GOP was going to push granny off a cliff so they could light their cigars with the money they saved.
The impeachment committee did their jobs anyway and went forward with impeachment even though they lost the election, and this did indeed spike up Clinton's numbers.
But the fact is the media helped make the impeachment appear to be nothing but a lurid sex scandal and not a crime; most people to this day do not understand why Clinton was impeached.
This case is very different; everyone understands bribery and gets what Biden is accused of doing.
And Biden is not Bill Clinton. People liked Clinton because he was affable and fun. Biden is neither and really has little in the way of redeeming personal characteristics.
Another point that is important in this; the public liked Clinton because he was not boring. They liked Trump, even those who hated Trump liked to be able to hate him. But Biden does nothing but bore us. Boredom is the cardinal sin in politics.
I have argued that a failure to impeach Biden will only embolden the Democrats to double down on what they have been doing using the law to abuse political enemies and at the same time will suggest to the American People that the GOP is on a witch hunt because they won't actually take action, suggesting they don't really believe it.
Biden has clearly broken the law; it is the duty of Republicans to hold him accountable.
The Truth shall set you free. IF we are to be damned it may as well be in a just cause, I might add. If we refuse to do the right thing how can we expect God to bless our efforts? How can we expect something good when we won't stand up for the Truth?
Obviously we have to wait to try Biden until after the election; there won't be the votes in the Senate. And even after it will mean Mitch "the Bitch" McConnell will try to pull a Trent Lott and spike the impeachment. But he can be pressured. And who knows? Given his recent cognitive breakdown in public he may wind up being gone anyway by then.
But the worst possible thing the Republicans can do is listen to a has-been like Gingrich now. The man hasn't been relevant for twenty years.
No,we need to impeach Biden. And Merrick Garland, and probably a few others while we are at it.
We also need to investigate people like Jack Smith, and hopefully find something with which to prosecute him. Until we fight fire with fire they will continue to abuse us.
Impeachment is only a "trap" if we go halfway into it. Sun Tzu said that if you invade enemy territory you must go in deeply "penetration but a short way leads to dispersal". The GOP can win if they actually go all-out, and even if they lose in the trial as long as the trial is lengthy enough to allow the American People to see what has happened then it will be a success. I would add they could impeach Biden even if he is no longer President, just as they did Trump.
Until the Republicans grow a pair of danglies down there America will continue its long, horrible slide.

The winds of war.
https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2023/08/10/wwiii-watch-poland-to-deploy-10000-to-border-as-tensions-mount-with-belarus/
Mr. Biden's plan to wage endless war in Eastern Europe is having an undesired effect. It may be spreading into a regional war. And if that happens NATO will require an unlimited response. A Polish/Belarus war could wind up a world war very easily.
Minister Mariusz Blaszczak said on Thursday Poland was making a bigger deployment of men to its border, which he said would amount to 10,000 in all: 4,000 actually at the border supporting the Border Guard and a further 6,000 in the second line. The purpose of moving more men closer to the frontier was,Blaszczak said per Reuter’s report: "We move the army closer to the border with Belarus to scare away the aggressor so that it does not dare to attack us”.
The announcement came after an announcement by the Polish government on Wednesday that it was sending up another 2,000 troops to the border.
While tensions rose over Russia’s re-invasion of Ukraine last year and a period of intensive asymmetric warfare against Polandand the European Union by Belarus at the border the year before that, in fact the recent deployments have been in response to Russia’s mutinous Wagner mercenaries being exiled to Belarus this year. This move has been followed by a series of Belarussian military training exercises coming right up to the Polish border, including an incident where two military helicopters are said to have crossed into Polish, and therefore NATO airspace.
Meanwhile Joe Biden has ordered Marines be placed on commercial vessels in the Persian Gulf. Why? It's to protect them from being seized by Iran, who is part of the Russian coalition, as well as Somali pirates.
The Iranians have seized several commercial vessels in the Gulf in recent months.
This only ratchets up tensions with Iran and increases the chances of an incident.
It IS a prudent move by the Biden Administration and I actually applaud them for trying to do their jobs, but it is a dangerous move and one that never should have been needed. It is the Biden weakness and vacillating and feckless policy that has led us here.
Iran is a solid ally of Putin and Russia and if war breaks out they will be the cornerstone of the Russian coalition in the Middle East.
We are moving inexorably towards world war.

Oops; she did it again!
That vile, hate-filled skankarella Kathy Griffin has posted a photoshopped picture of Prosecutor Jack Smith holding Donald Trump's severed head.
She took a beating over doing this in the past, yet here she does it again.
This shows exactly where her heart lies - and by extension the hearts of so many of the Democrats and Left wing in this country. They really do want to execute us.
This dimwitted diva doesn't understand that a sword cuts both ways, and often those who start cutting off heads wind up with their own being severed in the end.

Merrick Garland, the Consiglier of Joe Biden, has appointed David Weiss as Special Counsel to investigate Hunter Biden.
It was Weiss who offered the plea deal to Hunter Biden that would let him off the hook. Now he's the special counsel.
Just another coverup to take this off the table and immunize Joe Biden.
I caught NBC News reporting on this and even THEY could see the obvious; Weiss offered a deal to Biden, which means he was satisfied there was nothing more to find. Now he wants to be given more authority to investigate. It doesn't take a genius to smell the stink of corrption and a setup. Even NBC had to admit this point.
