Canned Beer Comeback

Dana Mathewson

I have to say this whole idea caught me by surprise. When I was younger, canned beer was considered a convenience ONLY. You drank canned beer because
  • Bottled beer wasn't available at your location
  • You were at a park that didn't allow glass
  • You were drinking with a bunch of lower-class schlubs who didn't give a damn as long as it was beer and it was cold
  • A six-pack of canned beer weighed less than a six-pack of bottles, you and the guys had to carry the stuff in by hand and you were going for volume
  • other reasons

But beer in cans somehow always represented the "redneck fringe" or the lower end of the scale -- even though most rednecks preferred longnecks. Now here are professional beer writers https://www.foodandwine.com/news/yards-philadelphia-pale-ale] waxing rhapsodic over canned beer? The world has truly changed, and I'm not sure I can catch up with it.
