Bad Bunny Lays Egg (Where is Elmer Fudd When You Need HIm?)
Timothy Birdnow
Oh, they don't say he did, and they are full of counter claims about how great he was (as, predictably, the whole media was this morning) but the fact remains if they are posting this it means they know a sizable segment of the public hated his show.
And well they should; BB pranced around like a sugarplum fairie, and the whole thing was horribly confusing and disjointed. Oh, the music was catchy in that Latin fashion, like Santana, but it was all in Spanish (and I gather it was quite filthy from what I've read, although not a Spanish speaker I couldn't tell) and it was just, well, weird. They had a bride and groom dancing around for no reason whatsoever. They had several LatinX type stars show up like Ricky Martin for no apparent reason. And they had a football with "love beats hate" emboldened on it. That is the most pathetic, juvenile tripe. BTW the opposite of love is not hate it is indifference, and frankly I was completely indifferent to this performance. What's that tell us?
The fact is this was just a huge FU from the NFL, who have forgotten that they are the NATIONAL football league and not the World League. Oh, and one of their conferences is the AMERICAN conference. America is being erased by the NFL, who seem more interested in a new world order league than in appealing to their base, who have traditionally been working class guys. Now they want to kiss the fannies of the Intelligentsia. Basically they are whores.
While for the next decade we will be told Bad Bunny did a great job, in time I suspect the truth will come out and everyone will talk about that horrible halftime show. It will become a byword, a cautionary tale.
It really should be. It was the Dylan Mulvaney of the NFL.
I couldn't find numbers for the competing halftime shows, nut I suspect a LOT of people tuned out from the official show and tuned in those. TPUSA had Kid Rock, for example. (We tried to find that one and couldn't, but we found a country music one that bored us all so we flipped back to see the end of Bunny. It was a relief when he hopped off stage and the game resumed.
I've grown to completely despise the NFL and particularly the Stuporbowl Halftime show. Can't say much for the game either because it is usually manipulated by the officiating to keep it close, something the refs didn't do last night (actually the Seahags got away with some pretty bad stuff and should have been called for it.) It really is more of a show than a game, and the fact so many people invest so much into it is a sad commentary on America. If we put half of the time and emotional investment into, say, elections, we would not have a problem. But people who wouldn't show up for an election will show up for Superbowl and be insulted by the NFL and think nothing of it. And of course people put even less into the salvation of their SOULS...
This is the modern gladiator games, bread and circuses. Romans cared more about who was going to cut the other slave's head off than about their country, and they all fed at the trough provided by Caesar through taxation. Sound familiar?
At any rate I couldn't find any polls done after the performance but would love to find them. That I couldn't find any showing it was a success tells me there aren't any polls saying good things about it.
The NFL should take heed. Remember what happened to Bud Lite.
OH, and most of the commercials were pretty lame too. This year's Super Bowl really laid an egg.
