AOC Spanked (like the juvenile girl she is) over Reagan

Timothy Birdnow

Recently Alexandria Occluded Cortex went all medieval on Ronald Reagan.

This did not sit well with Reagan biographer Craig Shirley, who destroyed her in a series of tweets:

THREAD: There is no evidence that @AOC ever picked up a book on President Ronald Reagan, so she would not know Reagan favored statehood for Puerto Rico. pic.twitter.com/n6Z1Js4gxg

There is no evidence that @AOC ever picked up a book on President Ronald Reagan, so she would not know Reagan appointed more African Americans to government positions as governor of California than any other executive of the state. pic.twitter.com/n6Z1Js4gxg

There is no evidence of @AOC ever picked up a book on President Reagan. so she would not know he was the president who signed the order creating the Dr. Martin Luther King national holiday. pic.twitter.com/n6Z1Js4gxg

There is no evidence that @AOC ever picked up a book on President Reagan, so she would not know he received over 43 percent of the Hispanic vote in 1980. pic.twitter.com/n6Z1Js4gxg

There is no evidence that @AOC ever picked up a book on President Ronald Reagan, so she would not know the @washingtonpost and the @NYT wrote lengthy articles exposing the massive corruption of the Welfare Queen of Chicago, Linda Taylor, to whom Reagan was referring.

There is no evidence that @AOC ever picked up a book on President Ronald Reagan. so she would not know that Reagan’s economic policies did more for African Americans and Hispanics than any other president in US history. pic.twitter.com/n6Z1Js4gxg

There is no evidence that @AOC ever picked up a book on President Ronald Reagan, so she would not know he created over 18 million jobs during his eight years in office and kicked off a 26 year run of economic growth. pic.twitter.com/n6Z1Js4gxg

Her pathetic reply?

Ok great, now talk about Reagan and:
– Iran-Contra +
– The gutting of our mental health system +
– The explosion of homelessness under his watch +
– The crack epidemic

Maybe instead of insinuating I’ve never read a book, be open to the idea that we’ve read different ones. https://t.co/aP96oCCBwm

End tweet

Uh, Alex, pop-ups aren't what we mean when we say "read a book".

I guess the Bronx Forrest Gump doesn't know that it was Ronald Reagan who obtained funding for AIDS research and waged a quiet war on the disease, which was only discovered in 1981, and that we can thank the fact peaked and is now a manageable disease in no small part to President Reagan.

It was the Reagan-appointed people at the FDA who found ways to circumvent laws put in place to slow the development of new drugs, a policy put in place after the devastation of Thalidomide. Reagan's people worked diligently to find any anti-viral that may have a beneficial effect on patients. In fact, AIDS research funding doubled almost every year after 1983, and Reagan always spent more than Congress appropriated. The lie that Reagan didn't care about AIDS is a purely political myth; the gay community hated Reagan and his ties to Christian Evangelicals. If no-notochord Cortz knew the difference between her anal sphincter and a Florida sinkhole she would know that. But she believes lies because they fit her worldview.

The Financial Times article linked above has this to say:

The Reagan administration not only spent more money on Aids research each year than the Democratically controlled Congress appropriated, but spent more on Aids research than any other disease or virus, with the exception of cancer. By 1988, the administration was spending more than $1.6bn annually on Aids research, rising to $2.3bn in 1989, Reagan’s last budget year.

End Excerpt.

As for the "gutting of our mental health system" who controlled the House of Representatives then? Since you are a House member, you should know that Congress holds the purse strings - and could have appropriated the money if they saw fit. Perhaps you should learn the Constitution, dear. And it was a left wing idea to "normalize" people who had been in institutions. That was the driving force for putting them out, which in turn drove up homelessness because these were people who were incapable of living on their own. YOU GUYS did that, not Ronald Reagan. And the de-institutionalization of the mentally ill began under Jimmy Carter via the The Mental Health Systems Act of 1980 (MHSA)

Here is a bit more on that:

The report urged HEW to develop a national plan for phasing down and, where appropriate, closing large mental hospitals and allocating more resources for comprehensive and integrated systems care that included community-based services and the remaining small state hospitals (President's Commission on Mental Health 1978, 1:16–28, 64–5).

End excerpt.

Get that AOC? The mental health problems started because the Federal Government under James Earl Carter closed down the institutions that so many relied on. The end result was a spike in homelessness, because so many of these people had nowhere to go. Yes, Reagan killed this idiotic idea a few years later - with the full consent of Congress, which was controlled by Democrats (at least the House, where spending originates).

So this kills two of your coocoo birds with one stone.

As for blaming Reagan for the crack epidemic, you have got to be kidding me! You on the Left have always promoted illicit drug use, not the Right. Yoor side labored mightily to make drug use hip, cool, everything an AOC could love, then you blame Reagan for the result!

As for Iran Contra, so what? Reagan knew he couldn't allow the Communists to take over Central America. In case you missed it, we were in a Cold War, one that could turn hot at any time, leading to the deaths of millions of Americans and innocent bystanders elsewhere. Frankly, I wish Reagan had done this to Cuba, too.

By the by, Reagan could have used the exact same mechanism that Donald Trump is using now, declared a state of emergency and appropriated funds for the Contras. Oh, and in case you missed it, there was a Special Prosecutor named who investigated it exhaustively and could turn up no lawbreaking. Reagan was not impeached precisely because nothing was found. I guess they didn't teach you that in college either, huh babe?

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is the ultimate fool, so foolish she thinks she is bright. It is frightening that someone so stupid could wind up in such an important position as this jewel of ignorance.

Government is like a baby. An alimentary canal with a big appetite at one end and no responsibility at the other. RR 1965

The trouble with our liberal friends is not that they are ignorant, but that they know so much that isn't so.
